Imago Dei dalam Pendidikan Agama Kristen sebagai Praksis Pembebasan Menurut Gustavo Gutiérrez dan Konfesi HKBP

This study examines the concept of Imago Dei in the thought of Gustavo Gutiérrez and its relevance to HKBP theological documents, particularly the 1951 and 1996 Confessions. The study employs a qualitative method through a literature review and a systematic theological approach. The findings indicate that although Gutiérrez does not explicitly formulate Imago Dei, his understanding of human dignity and liberation provides a perspective for viewing the image of God as a calling embodied in communal life. The 1996 HKBP Confession presents a more explicit understanding of humanity as Imago Dei than the 1951 Confession. The dialogue between these perspectives demonstrates the need to translate this theological understanding into ecclesial praxis and Christian Religious Education as a formative space for developing awareness of human worth, concern for others, and attitudes that reject discrimination and marginalization. Thus, Gutiérrez’s thought can serve as a hermeneutical perspective that enriches the contextualization of Imago Dei in the life of the church, education, and society.
